| Pictish and celtic influences Pict art has real appeal in its simplicity and creating new variations helps carry the art form to new generations and into the future so that it is not forgotton. Historically so many cultures were 'destroyed' through wars, crusades, christianity etc that knowledge of them has all but vanished. Although not much is known of the Pict people (what the Romans called them) some say they were fiece warriors of large proportions and they had long red hair and wore colourful even rainbow clothes. Certainly the remnants of the Picts remain on in certain of the native peoples, who still live in those areas originally occupied by the Picts. (Areas where pict stones were erected for eg) The Picts did not die out as such and neither did the Celts - they live on in their decendants. If you carefully study the scottish clans - those where the Picts kings, queens, princesses and princes married into other clans - you will see that the Pict nation live on today in their decendants. The common Pict people must have also inter married with other tribes, and so on. Certain clans definately have Pict ancestors and are destinctively different from those with viking / straight celtic ancestory. Some info here [link] |
